Memunatu Kamara is a 4th grade student from Makump (Mabum Station). Memunatu was absent from school for several days. Sarah, the head teacher from EduNations Hope Academy Nursery School - Makump, also serves as the Child Protection Agent in this community, went to her home to check on her.
Sarah found that Memunatu was very sick. Her widowed mother had no resources to seek treatment for her daughter. Sarah quickly informed Kadie Conteh, EduNations Social Worker, and they took Memunatu to the nearest hospital.
After medical testing was completed, they found that Memunatu was suffering from sickle cell anemia, tuberculosis of the spine, and jaundice malaria. Memunatu needed blood, but there was no blood available at the local blood bank. Her family members were tested but were not a match for her blood type. Sarah, the teacher, who previously helped Memunatu, was tested and was a match, so Sarah donated a pint of blood to Memunatu.
Memunatu’s condition is improving, but she has a long road of treatment ahead of her. Please pray that her health would be restored and that she would be able to return to school this upcoming year.
When you give to EduNations, your gift allows us to intervene in various medical emergencies and situations in which families are unable to seek healthcare on their own. You can provide medical care to a student who may otherwise suffer and in some cases succumb to their illness. Donate today to help Memunatu and other students suffering from illness!
