Eden Christian Academy Students Fund Meals for Their Peers in Sierra Leone

During the months of March and April, the junior class at Eden Christian Academy took on the goal of raising funds for "Meals for Mariatu" as part of their Bible class taught by Mr. Michael Hall. "Meals for Mariatu" is a campaign that was created to raise funds to feed our students at the Senior Secondary School.
These fifty American high school students were divided into seven groups (of six to seven students each) and were tasked with raising funds to meet this need. Each group set a goal to raise $330, which is enough to feed five students for a month. The groups came up with individual strategies to raise these funds, including the following: concessions at a volleyball event, a lunch time raffle, a dodgeball tournament, a waffle breakfast, scoops and spoons (an ice cream bar and games during study hall), selling various food options during lunch, and morning donut sales.
Through their service and leadership, the junior class as a whole was able to raise $2,432.07 which will feed 37 students for a month! They are keeping hope ignited in the students of Sierra Leone and fulfilling the command of Jesus to be witnesses "...to the ends of the earth."
Mr. Hall reflects on this project, "We have great kids, but I was surprised by the passion that was displayed for this endeavor. After all, this is school. We teach material, we assess the students, and we give grades. Even though this was a school project, the students embraced it for its spiritual impact and the ability to help others in need."
In his closing comments, Mr. Hall said, "We at Eden are excited to promote the global church. For many years, we have served within our school and within our local communities. This project provided us with an avenue to expand our student’s understanding of the needs around the world. It also provided an opportunity to discuss how they can use what God has provided them to bless others."
